Summer FAQ

What is TSS Summer Programs?

The Summer Programs offers a variety of academic two-week and five-week programs for skill-building and learning strategies.

Please click here for our Summer Programs brochure. Please note, all program details are included in "Summer" section of our website.

Who teaches the classes?

Our summer faculty comprises The Southport School teachers (whose average teaching tenure is 12 years) and guest teachers trained by the school in methodologies such as the Orton-Gillingham Approach and Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing & Verbalizing®. This ensures summer program students receive the best evidence-based remediation possible.

I'm worried this will sound a lot like school to my child...is it fun?

While it is true that this is an academic program at its core, the Summer Program at TSS celebrates learning in the same style that we embrace during the school year - an understanding that hands-ondynamic, and fun create the best environment for students to learn.  The vast majority of our summer faculty are tenured TSS teachers, who create a warm, exciting, and engaging program.  In fact, most students look forward to coming and return to the program year after year.

Is it easy to apply?

Yes!  Please apply online, click here. There is a non-refundable application fee of $75 which is payable online with a major credit or debit card.

Once your application is complete, you will hear from one of the directors of the Summer Program to schedule a campus visit. During the campus visit, children applying for the five-week program will be administered a brief reading and math assessment.

After the visit, the admissions committee meets to thoroughly assess the potential fit between student and program. Decision letters are sent within two weeks. Please note participation in the Summer Programs does not guarantee placement in The Southport academic year and is a separate process.

For more information, please contact our admissions office at 203.254.2044 or via email.
