The Organization
The Southport School, located in historic Southport Village, was founded in 1984 and currently serves 124 students with language-based learning differences like dyslexia and attention issues like ADHD. The school’s core values are excellence, cerebrodiversity, innovation, empowerment, and collaboration. Its mission is to provide transformative educational experiences and thought leadership that have a lifelong impact on students. It is committed to empowering cerebrodiverse students to reach their full potential and to sharing those learnings with the greater learning differences community through The Southport CoLAB.
The Southport CoLAB is a division of The Southport School that was established in 2018. It serves as an open resource, clearinghouse, and incubator in the field of learning differences. Its mission is to integrate research, practice, and advocacy to effect positive outcomes by translating best practices from that field to benefit all learners. In the process.
TSS is led by Executive Director, Dr. Benjamin N. Powers, who is in his twelfth year and leads a dedicated faculty of 38 with an average longevity at the school of 19 years. The school’s positive culture attracts mission-focused professionals who are driven to find greater meaning in their careers. Position Title: School Programs Coordinator
Location: The Southport School, Southport CT
Position Overview
The School Programs Coordinator provides essential administrative program support to school leadership and plays a key role in planning and implementing fun learning and enrichment activities. This role requires a creative thinker with excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills, and a passion for enhancing the student experience. A successful candidate is a proven content creator who is skilled at taking candid photos for digital and print materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and execute a variety of fun and engaging events for students, such as field trips, assemblies, holiday celebrations, theme days, and year end celebrations.
- Photograph the school’s day to day activities and special events
- Manage the school’s digital photo library and Image Use and Permissions Policy, including cataloging photos for various marketing materials
- Responsible for creating print-ready annual school yearbook, event marketing materials, school lunch menus, and other content as necessary
- Provide administrative support, including managing correspondence related to student events, programs, reports, testing, and the transition process.
- Manage data entry and integrity in the student management system, school dismissal software, and third party applications used to maintain accurate student records, attendance, and other essential documentation.
- Schedule and coordinate school events such as parent/guardian conferences, school picture day, and school-based research initiatives.
- Maintain office supplies inventory.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all students.
- Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Perform other duties as assigned ad hoc.
Qualifications
- College degree or equivalent;
- 2-4 years experience providing administrative support, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites, Dropbox, and Canva or Adobe Cloud Suite.
- Is a self starter who can work independently or as part of a cross functional team.
- Positive attitude and ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move around for extended periods.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, full-year, onsite position, typically Monday through Friday.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours are required for special events.
