Affording TSS

We recognize the financial commitment involved in enrolling a child at The Southport School. The Board of Directors and school leadership work hard to keep tuition as affordable as possible. Tuition for the 2024-2025 academic year is $72,975. A non-refundable deposit is required, and the balance is due in two equal payments on July 1, 2024, and December 1, 2024. Families are encouraged to apply for Financial Aid while their child is completing the admissions process. It is confidential and a separate process from the Admissions Department.

The following is additional financial information that we hope will be helpful as you consider enrolling in the program.

Tuition payments

Upon your child's acceptance to The Southport School, a non-refundable deposit of $15,000 is required to secure your child’s placement for the upcoming academic year. The remaining tuition balance is due in two equal payments of $28,987.50. The payments are due on July 1, 2024 and December 1, 2024. Payments are received by our Business Office.

Financial aid eligibility

The Southport School offers financial aid based on need to current and incoming students. When awarding financial aid, the School's Financial Aid Committee considers the financial strength of each family. These factors include total family income - both taxable and nontaxable, do both parents work, assets (such as home equity, real estate, savings, and the like), indebtedness, family size and number of children attending tuition charging schools, and other lifestyle expenses.

Applying for financial aid

To facilitate the review process TSS partners with School and Student Services (SSS) to help determine a family’s financial needs. The SSS application provides a comprehensive review of a family’s finances. When making our decision we use the information from the SSS application as a starting point and consider our information, school policies, and available budget. TSS will communicate your financial aid decision directly to you.

Applying for financial aid for re-enrolling families

Re-enrolling families receive priority consideration for financial aid. Their applications are due by March 1, 2024 preceding the beginning of the next academic year. By March 1st, parents must have completed their application and uploaded their required documents including tax returns, W2s and 1099s (as applicable).

Applying for financial aid for new families

Although the Financial Aid Committee accepts financial aid applications from new families on a rolling basis, applications cannot be submitted before January 1, 2024. Also, your student must be accepted to TSS before a financial aid application can be considered. Once parents have completed their application, they must upload their tax returns, W2s, and 1099s (as applicable).

How to complete your financial aid application online

To begin your financial aid application, you will complete the Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS) then submit the required documents. As of January 1, begin the process by creating your Family Portal account, click here to the PFS Family Portal.

  1. Create your Family Portal account with your email address and a password. If you applied for financial aid last year, log into the Family Portal as a Returning Family using your same email address and password.
  2. Complete a PFS for the academic year. You can log out at any time and return later to finish.
  3. When all PFS sections are complete with green checks, the Submit & Pay button is activated. Follow prompts to the payment screen. The $60 fee is nonrefundable. Once your PFS is submitted, it cannot be withdrawn from the SSS system.
  4. After you pay for and submit your PFS, the next step will require you to upload required documents by their deadline as part of your application process.
