Transportation Instructions
Student transportation to and from school safely is a priority
The Southport School does not provide transportation for students. Families must provide all arrival and dismissal instructions for their child through the app School Dismissal Manager (SDM). However, many families coordinate carpools and private transportation. To learn more about our families' private transportation solutions, please contact admissions@southportshcool.org.
Arrival
Student drop off begins in front of the school campus on Main Street at 7:50 am when staff are in front of the school to welcome them. Students may not exit the vehicle before 7:50 am or until staff are present.
- Please do not park on Main Street across from the Southport Fire Station and area businesses
- Please drop your child off on the school side of Main Street so they do not have to cross the street
- Please do not pull up in front of the school until staff members signal that it is safe to do so
If your child arrives after 8:00 am, students should still be dropped off from Main Street and report to the main office to sign in upon arrival.
Dismissal begins at 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday and at 12:31 pm on Fridays and half days. Any changes to arrival or dismissal must be noted in the SDM system.
Staging area
TSS staff will be on hand at the Southport Congregational Church lot to line up cars and get student names for dismissal. They will release cars from the lineup once TSS dismissal begins.
A designated staging area at the Southport Congregational Church lot is located directly across the street from Southport Congregational Church at 524 Pequot Avenue. We begin 10 minutes before dismissal (2:50 pm on full days, 12:21 pm on half days). Parents/Guardians will line up their vehicles along the parked cars adjacent to the marsh side of the parking lot in preparation for student pickup. TSS staff establishes the order for student pick-up. Please display the name(s) of the students you are picking up prominently on the car dashboard. Please do not arrive earlier than 10 minutes before dismissal.
Please exit carefully and proceed from the lot up Chester Place towards Main Street when directed. TSS staff will direct cars onto Main Street and toward the front of the school for pick-up. Please stay alert and follow guidance from TSS staff. Do not block driveways and turn off your engine when waiting. During pick-up and drop-off, staff members are always outside, rain or shine, to help direct traffic.
The safety and security of our students is a high priority. Please obey traffic laws and be especially attentive when dropping off or picking up students. If your child is a designated walker, please remind them to use the sidewalk and be cautious when crossing the streets to get to their agreed-upon pick-up location.
