Extended School Year Two-Week Programs

Session 1: July 6-17  |  Session 2: July 20-31

 

Our two-week programs focus on reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills. Students may register for both an early-morning and/or a late-morning session. Workshop descriptions, application process information and link to apply online listed below.

 Adventures in Reading for students entering K-1

Session 1:  July 6-17       9:00 – 11:30 AM

Entering grades K-1  

The early years of reading are critical for future academic success. Keep the momentum going through the summer with this workshop. These two-week programs are specifically designed for children entering grades K-1 to solidify and develop reading skills while still having a fun summer experience. The course is a mix of hands-on learning activities and fun arts and crafts.

 

Reading Strategies Workshop for students entering 6-9

Session 1: July 6-17      |     8:30 – 10:30 AM

Entering grades 6-9  

In this workshop, students learn a variety of active reading strategies necessary to be successful in all disciplines. Students are exposed to various techniques to help them break down and comprehend texts. The workshop emphasizes a variety of skills including prediction, inference, analysis, and information synthesis, as well as annotation techniques to improve comprehension with both fiction and nonfiction text.

Writing Skills Workshop for students entering 6-9

Session 1: July 6-17      |     8:30 – 10:30 AM

Session 2: July 20-31   |    10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Entering grades 6-9  

In this workshop, students build a solid foundation of writing skills necessary in all disciplines. Using a structured process, students are introduced to a variety of pre-writing, writing, post-writing strategies, as well as the use of technology to aid in the writing process. Individual and small group lessons and activities target core skills such as generating topics, organizing details, and editing drafts, helping students to develop positive writing habits.

 

Math Skills Workshop for students entering 6-9

Entering grades 6-9  

This two-week course is designed to strengthen students’ understanding of and ease in using advanced computation and pre-algebra concepts. Emphasis is also placed on developing various approaches to solving word problems and related math applications. Strategies and activities are designed to meet each student’s area of need.

 

Study Skills Workshop for students entering 6-9

Session 1: July 6-17      |     10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Session 2: July 20-31   |    8:30  – 10:30 AM

Entering grades 6-9  

This comprehensive workshop introduces, develops, and enhances skills and habits that help students maximize their learning styles. Small group instruction focuses on understanding and applying executive functions to becoming a proactive and positive student.


Application Process

Please apply online, click here. There is a non-refundable application fee of $75 which is payable online with a major credit or debit card.

Once your application is complete, you will hear from one of the directors of the Summer Program to schedule a campus visit. 

After the visit, the admissions committee meets to throughly assess the potential fit between student and program. Decision letters are sent within two weeks. Please note participation in the Summer Programs does not guarantee placement in the academic year and is a separate process.
